Supporting Businesses in Bolton with Free Cyber Security Guidance

Last week our new Head of Economic and Cyber Crime, DCI Chris Maddocks, was joined by Niomie Haynes and two fantastic PCSOs from Greater Manchester Police to support businesses in Farnworth and Bolton.

It was fantastic to connect with some local businesses to share some of our free cyber security membership and our downloadable cyber security guides.

"Speaking to local businesses and listening to their concerns around cybercrime has shown that many businesses still don't know where to turn to when it comes to cyber. Often they told us that they're unsure if they can afford specialist support and don't know who to turn to if their facebook or Instagram pages are hacked. At the Cyber Resilience Centre, we're able to offer businesses a range of free support to help train their staff and put in place a range of measures to increase their resilience against cyber attacks."-DCI Chris Maddocks

What support is available to businesses in Bolton?

If you're an SME based in Bolton, there are several ways the Cyber Resilience Centre can support you in starting your cyber security journey:

  • Become a member for free - Our free membership is not just for IT or Tech companies – it is highly relevant and beneficial to all sectors, individuals, company sizes and types of organisations based in the North West.

  • Download our small business guide - If you're a business that has never thought about the dangers of online crime or doesn't know where to begin with cyber security. You can download your copy of the Cyber Security Guide for Small Businesses. When running a small business, you need to understand and prioritise where you can protect your organisation —is it your identity, privacy, systems, data, or all of these things?

  • Talk to us about training your staff - If your business has over 20 staff and has never delivered security awareness training, it's time to speak to Niomie! Security Awareness Training is used to prevent and mitigate the risk of cyber attackers tricking or scamming your staff. Our Security Awareness Training session(s) can be delivered to all levels of staff to educate them on the latest scams, phishing tactics and various security topics.

"We want to make Bolton and the whole of the North West the most secure place to operate online in the UK." -DCI Chris Maddocks
