The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has released new guidance which aims to help local authorities build awareness and understanding of the security considerations needed to design, build, and manage smart cities.
This new guidance focuses on a set of cyber security principles that aims to ensure the security of a connected place (smart cities) and its infrastructure, to increase resilience to cyber-attacks and make them easier to manage.
Developed for local and national authorities in the UK, who are responsible for the design, build, and operation of UK connected places. This guidance is important for risk owners, CISOs, cyber security architects and engineers, and any personnel who are running the day-to-day operations of the connected place's infrastructure.
Connected places (often referred to as 'smart cities') have the potential to make people’s lives better, more efficient and greener. We need to collectively ensure we address the cyber security issues to ensure our cities are safe and resilient. Like most complex systems, that will end up as a balance between security, safety and functionality.
