About the event

Join our colleagues at the West Midlands Cyber Resilience Centre, the West Midlands Police Regional Cyber Crime Unit and IASME for this free session intended for any member of school staff that have access or use any form of IT, including teachers, suppliers and administrative staff.

The topics covered in this session will be applicable to both home and work lives of those that use technology and devices on a regular basis.

Hinesh Mehta, Detective Inspector, West Midlands Police Regional Cyber Crime Unit will share with you the latest information on current threats to the education sector, what cyber protection considerations and obligations you need to be aware of, how law enforcement can support schools pre and post cyber incident. He will deliver guidance for schools to upskill teachers, senior leaders and other associated employees on key cyber topics that include Phishing, software and device updates, backing up data, passwords and two-factor authentication.

Detective Inspector Mehta will also give details of the free-of-cost membership that is available at The Cyber Resilience Centre for the West Midlands for every school in the region. The core membership has been established to help businesses, schools and charities fight the threat posed by cybercrime. Cybercriminals don’t have a size preference and will make their money wherever possible, via the core membership the WMCRC is able to guide you through the basics and keep you in the loop with trending topics so that you keep one step ahead of cybercriminals, not the other way round.

Sarah Booth, IASME will be sharing information on Cyber Essentials, a Government-backed scheme that will help you to protect your school, whatever its size, against a whole range of the most common cyber-attacks. Cyber Essentials involved putting in place five core controls that will eliminate the common security gaps that up to 80% of cyber-attacks rely on.
