New Cyber Security Protection Announced for Small Businesses in the North West

Updated: Jun 26, 2023

To aid small businesses, SMEs, and freelancers working in the North West, we’ve launched a dedicated area of cyber resources, guidance and useful links to help businesses who want to learn how to protect their business and start their journey to become cyber resilient.

If you're a growing business (or already established), we can help further your education and strengthen your resilience against cyber attacks. We can also work closely with you to ensure we fully understand your business needs and can tailor our membership or services to fit in with how your company works and within your budget.

32% of Small Businesses have experienced Cyber Attacks in the last year.

Many small to medium-sized businesses wrongly assume they do not need cybersecurity help because they outsource their IT support. When the Cyber Resilience Centre and your managed IT provider can work together to ensure your staff receive security awareness training, your data is backed up regularly, and any vulnerabilities are found and secured.

New Cyber Security Guide for Small Businesses Launched

When running a small business, you need to understand and prioritise where you can protect your organisation — is it your identity, privacy, systems, data, or all of these things?

When you know what you want to protect, you must understand how it might be at risk. Download your copy of the small business guide here.

A survey by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in 2023 found around 32% of businesses fell victim to a cybersecurity breach or cyber attack in the past 12 months.

The average annual cost of cyber crime for businesses is estimated at £15,300.

The same DCMS report showed that just 15% of micro and small businesses had offered training to their staff.

Our small business guidance is part of a collection of Cyber Resilience Centre guidance which has been reviewed and refreshed to offer up-to-date tips on implementing key security controls.

This includes the Back to the Office guide, which breaks down cloud security, passwords, implementing Working from Home Policies, Cyber Security Checklists, remote working guide and our Cyber Incident Response Pack, which contains documents to help support your business plan its response to a cyber incident.
